How To Train Your Dragon (2010)

Watched the trailer in the cinema months ago and I already wanted to watch this. But it was until my sis and Soon told me that the movie is great that I was dying to watch it in the cinema. And in 3D...! Been persuading the guys (and girls) to watch with me and finally we went on the night before my Forensic Accounting midterm paper last Thursday (test on Friday). Not very disciplined of me right? What to do la..? No mood to study and tempted to watch something fun and nice. But too bad, we didn't make it to the 3D screening time. Plus, we're all on budget so we went for 2D instead. Well, learning our lesson from Alice In The Wonderland, 2D seems like a good choice.

But we were wrong! The first few minutes of the movie already caught my attention. It was such a beautifully made piece of animation. The settlement of the vikings, the beautiful sceneries of the island and the dragons are all drawn so beautifully. Even the vikings are cute! Especially when Hiccup were flying with Toothless, it's just plain splendid. It's much more fun than Aladdin and Jasmine on the flying carpet and the adventure of Dory and Nemo's dad under the sea. At that particular moment, Mj and I were like "wah!!!" "wow" "so niceeeee" " I feel like flying too..." etc etc. Imagine if 2D could make us felt this way, 3D would have brought the scene into life. (At this point, I really feel like watching this movie for a second time - this time 3D one)

Script was written nicely with some funny yet natural (yes, they are not trying too hard like some other movies) , it makes you giggle and laugh. Fighting scene are also not bad for an animation. The plot is simple and straightforward. A misunderstanding between a father who expect a lot and a son who just don't quite fit into the society's accepted value. The story also explore into the typical story of how a loser (as seen by the people) become the hero and also the fact that people often turn to war and violence just because of misconception and misunderstanding.

Seem very typical, but the filmmaker managed to combine it all into a smooth plot. At the end of the day, we get all the messages that the filmmaker/original author of the book wanted to convey. How To Train Your Dragon is that kind of movie that we can connect to and be entertained by the beautiful graphic at the same, regardless of your age - 3, 12, 22, or 50. It's a heart warming and touching story at some point.

Besides, all those dragons were so cute and adorable. Fat and ugly, 2 heads, strong and mighty and even clumsy ones... How can you possibly resist to watch dragons that behave no different from cats and puppies. It's definitely one of the best animation I've watch in this decade. An Oscar material? Maybe a little to early to predict but I will not be surprise at all if it replaces "Up" next year! The book has sequels. Will they make it to the big screen too? Can't wait!!!! Toothless is so damn adorable, I wanna have it as my pet!!!! XD (if they make a toy of it, I'll definitely buy!!! <<< Gosh! I sound like a kid)

Rating: 9.5/10 (Would have been 9.9/10 if it's 3D) - Highly recommended!

What the hell are you guys waiting for? Watch it now if you haven't and make sure you catch in in 3D!!!
